When You’re Ready for Fall but the Weather Isn’t:

There is something about September that makes me want to change everything. I’m ready for sweaters, boots, darker colors, cooler mornings, and all the things that make fall feel like fall. The only problem is that September does not always cooperate.

Some days still feel like summer. Other mornings have just enough chill in the air to make you think fall has finally arrived, and then by afternoon you are wondering why you wore a sweater.

So this time of year, I find myself dressing somewhere in the middle. Not quite summer. Not quite fall. And honestly, I think this is one of the best times to get creative with what is already in your closet. A lightweight sweater with jeans. A skirt with boots instead of sandals. A summer dress with a cardigan or jacket. A darker handbag with an outfit you have been wearing all summer. Sometimes one small change is enough to make an outfit feel completely different.

I also think September is when I start paying more attention to texture. Corduroy, denim, soft knits, suede, leather. Even if the weather is still warm, those little details begin to make everything feel more like the season ahead. And I am definitely ready for the season ahead.

Fall has always been one of my favorite times to get dressed. I love the layers, the colors, the jackets, and especially the boots. Give me a good pair of jeans, a sweater and boots and I am happy. At Edge & Ivory, I have been slowly bringing in pieces that work for this in between season instead of rushing straight into heavy fall clothing. I want things you can wear now and still reach for later when the temperatures finally drop. That is always how I like to shop for myself too. I want clothes that earn their place in my closet. Pieces I can wear more than one way. Pieces that do not feel like they only work for one very specific day or occasion.

September is also going to be a fun month around here. Fall pieces are arriving, I have been planning our Fall on the Porch event, and I am looking forward to sharing more of the season with all of you. And since September seems like a good month for a little something extra, we are also doing free shipping throughout the month. Mostly, though, I am just excited for fall. Now we just need the weather to get the memo.
